Attendance Helpful Hints

When a student is or will be gone from school for any reason, a parent or guardian needs to notify the office.  You can do this several ways.

  • Call the attendance line at (608) 845-4003 by 9:00 AM. After 9:00 am, please call the main office at 845-4000.
  • Send an email to Savanna Oaks Attendance at:
  • Send in  "A Note From Home" with your student. Have them come to the attendance window first thing in the morning from 8:20-8:30 to get a pass to leave school at the given time or to pick up an "Advance Make-up" sheet.

If a student is late or needs to leave during the day for an appointment...

Please send your student to the office with "A Note From Home" once they arrive to get a late slip or a permit to leave pass.  Getting a permit to leave pass in the morning is extremely helpful in lowering classroom interruptions with phone calls into classrooms to pull students.  Our attendance window is open from 8:20-8:30 each morning or they can come into the office at any time.

You may also leave this information on the attendance hotline (608) 845-4003 or email

If you are planning a vacation or other event and know in advance that your student will be absent..

Please notify the office 1-10 days prior to that absence.  Your student will receive an "Advance Make-up" form from the office that will notify teachers and allow them to assign homework that would be missed.

If your child doesn’t feel well at school...

Please encourage your child to stop in and visit the school nurse before contacting home.  The school nurse, or office staff, will make contact with a parent if the student needs to go home due to illness. If the student does end up going home, this becomes a medically excused absence, but only if the student has visited the health room. All students must first sign out in the office before leaving the building.

NOTE:  If a student accumulates 5 – 10 partial or full days of absences a parent will receive an attendance letter.  Please read it carefully for VASD attendance policies.
