As the school year is winding to a close, we would like to promote a few summer band opportunities that your child can be a part of this summer. We cannot stress the importance of having your child practice their instrument throughout the summer enough!!

Here are a few ways that they can become involved:

Attend VASD Summer Band

Who? All incoming 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th graders

Where? BRMS band room

When? June 25th - July 20th (4-week program with a concert on July 20 at the public library in Verona)

What is it? This is a great way to keep your kids motivated to keep playing their instruments!

We offer a Full Band practice that meets on Monday's and Fridays from 11:30-12:30. This band is usually about 60 students from both BRMS and SOMS.

 Jazz Band

Jazz Band is also available for any student to join! No prior experience needed! Jazz band meets on Wednesdays from 11:30-12:30.

Individual or Small Group Lessons

Lessons are also offered for those students that would like to challenge themselves to become more advanced, receive extra help, or learn a new instrument (teacher approval necessary). These lessons are by sign up only. There will be a sign up posted in the band room at BRMS when summer lessons happen. Have your student stop in during full band or jazz band to sign up for a lesson! The time slots will be on Wednesdays from 10:-11:30. 20-30 minutes each.

We also encourage students that will be entering into 8th or 9th grade to become a Student Teacher, meaning they attend the beginner classes of their instrument and help teach incoming 6th-grade students with learning their instrument. There is a Student Teacher Training class that meets on Wednesdays from 8:30-10:00 during summer lessons as well as the 45-minute class that they would help teach for their instrument. This is a fantastic way to establish leadership in the older kids! Email with questions!

Attend a Summer Band Camp at a College or University

These camps are great to get a jumpstart on the school year! Students work with professional musicians, students from around the state, and learn from very dedicated musicians. Email with questions! I teach every summer at UW-Platteville.

UW-Platteville Pioneer Summer Band Camp (registration closes early July)

UW-Whitewater Summer Music Camp (registration closes 7/11)

Thank you for supporting your musician! Have a happy and musical summer!
