Entering and leaving the building
All doors are locked during school hours. Students and visitors must use the intercom to enter during the school day. The intercom is located on the pole to the right of the front doors. You will be asked to state your name and the reason for your visit.

During the school day, upon entering/leaving the building every student or visitor is required to stop in the office to sign in and out.

Announcements to Students
Announcements are made first thing in the morning. They include important information regarding after-school activities, pictures etc. and are also posted on the webpage.  End of day announcements are also made for brief reminders and student messages.

Please make the end of day pick up arrangements before your student leaves in the morning. If plans change late in the day we can’t guarantee they will get the information needed before they leave for the day.

Notify the office of any student absence.  Report student absences by calling the attendance line at 845-4003 or send a note to school.  If you know in advance that your student will miss school for an extended period of time, notify the office 1 – 2 weeks prior to the absence. The office will provide an “Advanced Make-up form”. This form is used to notify staff of the absence and to help organize homework for the student.

If a student accumulates 5 – 10 partial or full days of absences you will be receiving an attendance letter. Please read it carefully for VASD attendance policies.

After School Buses and Bus Passes
Students who normally ride a bus to and from school may take a 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM bus after school Monday – Thursday. These buses have pre-set stops and will get your student as close to their normal bus stop as possible.

A Savanna Oaks to Badger Ridge shuttle bus runs Monday – Thursday at 3:40 PM and leaves from the front of the school. Only students participating in extra-curricular practices and events may ride this bus and do not need a bus pass. Students need a parent to pick them up from Badger Ridge after their practice or event.

If your student needs to ride a bus with a friend, send a dated note to the office stating the names of the students involved. Without a note, we will have to contact the parents of both students, which is very time-consuming for office staff. If contact can’t be made we will not allow the bus pass.

Cell Phones or Personal Electronic Devices
Please refer to the Student Handbook on the Savanna Oaks website.

Health Room

The Health room is located in the main office.  Students may use the health room as needed and parents will be contacted when necessary. Forms are available for student medication including Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen.

Students should visit the health room before calling or texting a parent to come and get them.

Lost and Found
Lost and found items are displayed in the commons area. All parents and students have access to check for lost items. Some valuable or small items may also be kept in the office.
Lost and found items are donated two or three times a year. Announcements for students to check the lost and found will be made for several days prior to donating.

The gym locker rooms also have lost and found items for anything left in the gym area.

Lunch Account Payments
To pay online go HERE.  You may also pay by cash or check at the Savanna Oaks office.

Further lunch account questions can be answered by calling the Child Nutrition office located at Badger Ridge, 845-4139.

Parent Information
The Savanna Oaks website is the main source for parent information. Calendars, late start dates, School Messenger information, newsletters, classroom and athletic information along with many other things are continually being updated on our website.

SchoolMessenger messages may also be sent out to parents with important information. It may come to you as an email, a text (you must “opt in” for text messages), or as a phone call. When a call is received from SchoolMessenger please say “Hello” and wait 3 seconds for the message to begin.

You can also follow SOMS on Facebook and Twitter.

Teachers also reach out to parents via classroom websites, email or phone.

Late start magnets are provided to parents for quick reference to our late start dates. Middle school late starts are not every Monday and are not even every other Monday in some instances. Magnets are available in the main office.

Volunteers are needed throughout the year for various events. Sign up is done mostly at registration but you may contact the office anytime if you are interested in volunteering. The following are some of our volunteer opportunities:
□ Picture Day (September)
□ Picture Day (Spring Date TBD)
□ Book Fair (October)
□ Halloween Carnival (October)
□ Art Show Reception – Food/Help (March)
